What is MAT? (Medicated Assisted Treatment):
Medicated-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA- approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT can currently be used to address Opioid dependence, Alcohol abuse, or smoking.
Note: Some, but not all Addiction and Substance Abuse Treatment providers may utilize MAT to assist some clients in their recovery. MAT medications are not intended for long term use and patients must always engage their treatment professional about extended use and gradual withdrawal plan.
